Clearly the author is aiming for the bull’s-eye. These are certainly issues that a prospective investor and/or business person needs to know. It’s always a risky business to disagree with an author about the purpose or meaning of what they’ve written, but in this case I think I must. StartCasino is quite a bit more than just an entrepreneur’s business guide to online gambling. I’d say that anyone wanting to know the foundations of this business would be well-advised to read the entire contents.
You’ll learn, for instance, that the typical casino take on $1000 wagered is $30, or 3%. (A quick visit to Sands of the Caribbean and their payout percentages table will confirm that.) The section on US legislation is an excellent summary of the background and relevance of the proposed bills and why you should and should not worry about it. I love Poker. As as kid I wanted to hang out with the old man so I asked him to show me how to play cards: he taught me 5-Card Stud. I’ve trolled around the Internet for a good answer to this question and the results have been mixed. In my opinion, Multi-Player games are the way to go, and the Internet has a few options in this area. Let’s take a quick look at MPlayer, one of the better play-for-free multi-player games I’ve tried recently.
MPlayer offers a number of multi-player online games, but I’m only interested in their Poker services, which are generally excellent. When you connect to their website you’re walked through a speedy installation and sign-up process and eventually you end up looking at a console for the Poker “room”.
What you see in the Poker Room is a list of all the “tables” where games are in progress or waiting for players. Each table shows the min/max bets, buy-in and an indication of what that table’s play level is. In other words it’s pretty easy to know what’s available and suitable. And if you don’t like what you see, start a table of your own.
The games available include 5- and 7-Card Stud, Texas Hold’ Em, Omaha, and others. When you start to play you’re given $1000 in free chips and after that it’s up to you. If you rack up winnings, the system will remember what you’ve got from one play session to the next. There are more than a few regulars here who’ve racked up hundreds of thousands of chips. It looks like $1,000,000 might be the system limit, but there you go.
MPlayer will remember your losses too. And what happens if you bust? You’re out of the current game, of course, but next time you join or start a game you’re given another $1000 start-up.
In each game there is a chat window built right into the console. Just type in your message and the other players can see it. You’ll soon see that a lot of these folks know each other and you might feel a bit left out. Don’t sweat it. Jump in, make yourself at home and in no time you’ll be a regular too.
Sounds great, yes? So what’s the downside? Not much really, except maybe that their game servers can be a little pokey at times. If you’re playing at a full table during the busy times it can take several minutes for a betting round to complete. This may take a bit of getting used to, especially when compared to the typical Casino software package. But remember that you’re playing real people and not the computer.
Frankly I’d like to spend more time at MPlayer. It’s just about everything I want in a serious practice site and I keep thinking about some of the games I’ve had there. Unfortunately my job is to write about it and move on. But that’s not your problem, so if you want to polish your Poker skills without risking the car keys, I’d recommend MPlayer.
